Hall: Schuyler Bailar
Schuyler Bailar is the first transgender athlete to compete in any sport on an NCAA Division 1 men’s team, as a member of Harvard’s Swimming and Diving team. Schuyler’s difficult choice—to transition while potentially giving up the prospect of being an NCAA champion—was historic. His story of authenticity and perseverance, acceptance and advocacy has appeared everywhere from 60 Minutes to The Wall Street Journal to The Ellen Show. Schuyler is the author of the 2023 book He/She/They: How We Talk About Gender and Why It Matters. He is an internationally-celebrated speaker and an advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion, self acceptance, and mental health awareness. He has presented to hundreds of businesses, organizations and schools, and today he continues his academic pursuits in the Evolutionary Psychology Lab and the Valera Clinical Psychology Lab at Harvard.
