Jim Ryan joined RL in 2009 as a member of the Modern Languages and Arts departments, where he teaches Spanish and Watercolor Painting. He is one of the faculty directors of Community Service, a member of the Admission Committee, one of the leaders on the Immersion Program in Spain, and coach of Fourth Basketball. Prior to RL, Jim, who is a native of Dorchester, taught at Phillips Exeter and Milton Academy. He holds a B.A. from Holy Cross and an M.A. from Boston College.

Jackie Salas joined RL in 2021 and serves as Director of Community and Culture as well as a member of the Science Department. She is a member of the Admission Committee and faculty advisor to the VEX Robotics club. Prior to RL, Jackie was Science Department Chair at Xaverian Brothers School. She holds a B.A. from Regis College and an M.Ed. from University of Notre Dame.

David Smith joined RL in 2022 as Dean of Students and a member of the History faculty. He also serves on the Admissions Committee and coaches JV Lacrosse and Junior Wrestling. Prior to coming to RL, he served in a variety of roles at St. Anne’s-Belfield School and Woodberry Forest School in central Virginia.  He holds a B.A. from the College of William and Mary, a M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School, and is in the process of earning his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.

Gregory Sokol joined RL in 2015 and is a member of the Mathematics and Science Departments, as well as Class II Dean, co-chair of the ISP committee, member of the Admission Committee, member of the Community and Culture Committee, and coach of JV Soccer and Junior Tennis. He can sometimes be heard playing bass in the orchestra pit during school drama productions. He holds an A.B and B.E. from Dartmouth College and an M.Ed. from Lesley University.

Arturo Solís joined the Modern Languages faculty in 2015. He holds a B.A. from Cornell University, where he served as varsity soccer team captain. He began his teaching career at The Gunnery, teaching three levels of Spanish and coaching multiple teams. He went on to teach and coach at St. Paul’s School and Westminster School, working with students both in the classroom and on the athletic fields. Arturo earned an MA from Middlebury College in 2016. At RL, he teaches several levels of Spanish, helps lead the school’s summer immersion program in Spain, and contributes to the athletics program through his work with the soccer and track teams. In addition, he is a member of the Admission Committee and the Community and Culture Committee.

Sean Spellman, Class of 2008, is the Associate Director of Athletics and Director of Summer Programs at Roxbury Latin. He also contributes to the Health and Wellness curriculum and works closely with student leadership development. He manages the oversight and coordination of facility rentals, ensuring the effective use of campus spaces by internal and external groups.Sean joined RL in 2015 and is the Head Coach of Varsity Basketball as well as an assistant coach for Junior Football. Sean holds a BS from Springfield College and a MS from Northeastern University. He is currently pursuing a MEd at Springfield College.

Blake Sundel joined RL in 2023 as a member in the English Department, and serves as Assistant Dean of Class III, a member of the Admission Committee and the Community and Culture Committee, and coaches  Fourth Soccer and Varsity Track. Prior to RL, he was a faculty member, coach, and advisor at Belmont Hill School and St. Alban’s School. He holds a B.A. from Harvard College, where he was a member of the swimming and diving team, and an M.B.A. from University of Southern California.

Erin Sutton joined RL in 2024 as the Chair of the Arts Department. She has taught high school art for 13 years, most recently in the Lawrence and Lynn public school systems. She also serves on the Admission Committee, ISP committee, Community and Culture Committee, and contributes to the drama and outdoor education programs.

Geoff Theobald joined RL in 2022 as a member of the Mathematics Department. His decades-long career in teaching and school administration has included work at both Milton Academy and Buckingham Browne and Nichols School. He holds a B.A. and M.S.W. from University of North Carolina.
