Dining at Roxbury Latin
Roxbury Latin students eat lunch each day in the Jarvis Refectory, during one of two lunch periods. Faculty and staff also eat lunch during these periods, either joining students in the main Refectory, or eating in the adjacent Faculty Dining Room. Often teachers or advisors take advantage of that break in the day to eat lunch and catch up with their advisees or students, in a relaxed atmosphere.
Food service is provided by SAGE Dining Services. Lunch menu options each day include both a self-serve and full-serve hot food station; a fruit and salad bar; a sandwich bar; a soup station; and several drink and dessert options. The menu provides variety including authentic international cuisine to expose students to the tastes and flavors from around the world, as well as perennial student favorites, like pizza day and breakfast for lunch. The SAGE Dining staff can accommodate all food allergies and dietary restrictions, and nutritional guidance related to the daily menu is provided through SAGE’s Spotlight Program.
Roxbury Latin students dine daily under important watchwords emblazoned on the wall in the Jarvis Refectory: “From those to whom much has been given, much will be expected.” With the goal of developing character, and emphasizing the importance of service, we assign lunchroom duties to boys in Class II and Class III. Class II is responsible for monitoring the lunch line; helping to ensure appropriate, cooperative activity during the lunch period; and ensuring that students clean their areas once they’re done. Class III is responsible for helping to sweep and clean up the Refectory once the lunch period is over.
