Service to others has been foundational to a Roxbury Latin education since John Eliot penned the School’s mission “to fit [students] for public service in Church and Commonwealth.” Alumni through the succeeding centuries answered that call again and again, nor has the School let up on this imperative to serve; it is integral to our students’ experience today more than ever.
Our students are in good company. Quiet volunteerism by alumni is going on all around us (far from the nudge of Alma Mater!). Parents of current students are equally self-sacrificing: our students are rich with mentors for generosity. Finally, judging from their stories, these members of the greater RL community are as transformed by their service as are those whom they serve. In every tale there is gratitude, humility, and hope.
Roxbury Latin alumni and parents have said “yes” to service opportunities everywhere, surrendering a bit of their lives for the benefit of those in need. We invite you to read their stories via the links at right.
