In 2009, the Board of Trustees ratified a strategic plan—a vision for the School that affirms that which has made Roxbury Latin a distinctive institution for so many years—the boys and the faculty. The Strategic Plan: Honoring the Boys and Their Teachers
, published and disseminated to the RL community in 2010, underscores the need for the School to find ways to enhance its program for the boys, and it expresses three primary commitments as fundamental in the School’s fidelity to its mission of offering talented, aspiring boys of Greater Boston a distinctive education, through ethical formation of each boy and rigorous academic training:
- To maintain a broadly representative student body of fewer than 300 boys preserving the School’s intimate dynamic in which each boy is known and loved;
- To engage and develop a generalist faculty that is well trained, talented, passionate, and committed to the boys in their care;
- To sustain a program that thoroughly grounds students in the liberal arts and offers training in academic skills.
