Record-Setting Weekend for Track and Field

On Sunday, 13 May, RL’s track and field team competed in the Independent School League Championship meet at The Governor’s Academy in Byfield, Massachusetts. Entering the meet with a season record of 16-2, the team succeeded in meeting their fifth place seed but exceeded their expected score, finishing with 49 points. The team’s success was propelled by nine RL boys setting personal best records in their respective events (listed below).

Of particular note, Milan Rosen (II) drew a crowd as he set a new school record with his pole vault leap of 12’ 9”. The previous Roxbury Latin record in this event was set in 2014 by Stephen Golden at 12’ 6”. Prior to that, the school record was held by William Welles Hoyt, Class of 1894, at 11’. Hoyt went on to become the Olympic champion in 1896.

The varsity track and field team will finish its season and defend its New England Championship title on Saturday, 19 May, at the NEPSTA Championship meet at the McMann Outdoor Athletic Complex in Bath, Maine.

Watch Milan Rosen set the school's pole vault record.
