Roxbury Latin’s hockey players and coaches have raved about the experience of skating on the School’s new ice surface in the recently opened Indoor Athletic Facility. “After playing there,” said one player on the Junior Hockey Team, “playing on any other rink feels like pond hockey.” In addition to RL’s players, teams from Parkway Youth Hockey and Catholic Memorial School have also benefited from practices in the IAF this winter.
Eager to give even more people the chance to enjoy the new rink, Roxbury Latin hosted a “Community Free-Skate” on Saturday, 4 February, immediately following the Roxbury Latin vs. Milton Academy hockey game. RL students, along with their siblings and parents, skated with RL faculty and their children until everyone’s legs were exhausted. Several gallons of hot chocolate were consumed, and a good time was had by all in attendance. See photos here.
Then on Sunday afternoon, 12 February, despite the approaching blizzard, about 100 Boston residents (most of them kids) attended the first Roxbury Latin School Neighborhood Free-Skate. Parkway Youth Hockey and Catholic Memorial School are regularly using the new rink for team practices, and all of us at RL are deeply gratified to see even more of our neighbors enjoying the ice.
