RL's yearly soccer "friendly": Alumni vs. Varsity

On Saturday, September 17, familiar faces from RL's soccer program reunited for an alumni "friendly" on the new artificial turf field. The game, which has grown into a tradition throughout Coach Paul Sugg's long career, pitted 20+ savvy alumni against RL's varsity team.

In a well-played match, the varsity side performed admirably, prevailing 4-2 on the strength of two goals from George Jean-Claude '17 and a solid performance from Matt Uek '18. Fittingly, longtime captain of the alumni team, Pat McCabe's '87, scored the first alumni goal on the new field. The match also connected former standouts on the pitch including Aaron Maund '08, who currently plays for Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake franchise, and George Matthews '08. The two captained a scrappy 2007 soccer squad, one of the program's best in its long-lived history.
