Maund ’08 chosen in 12th pick by Toronto FC
Aaron Maund ’08, currently a senior at Notre Dame and a high profile soccer player with the Fighting Irish, was chosen with the 12th pick in the draft by Toronto FC. This place was higher than initial projections predicted. Prior to the actual draft, the league invites a very select group of players – many from US universities – to participate in a “combine” that includes physical measures of speed, leaping ability, etc along with games played over several days. By most accounts, Aaron’s excellent performance during that combine elevated his stock which resulted in his being chosen #12. Since he has finished his requirements for graduation a semester early (he won’t participate in the formal graduation ceremony until late spring), Aaron is now free to join the Toronto club when they begin training later this year.
The 2012 MLS SuperDraft was held on January 12 and was the thirteenth annual SuperDraft presented by Major League Soccer. The draft was reduced from three rounds to two with the 19 MLS clubs selecting a total of 38 players.
