Inaugural entrepreneur event scores results
The topic of connection was on the minds of attendees of the inaugural entrepreneur networking event hosted by the Alumni Council and held at the Boston Harbor Hotel on Wednesday morning.
The initial meeting focused on generating ideas for establishing an ongoing group of RL alumni engaged in all aspects of entrepreneurial endeavors. Among ideas discussed were a more informal opportunity for entrepreneurs in the community to get to know more about each other's projects, ways to connect current RL boys and those alumni currently in college to the entrepreneurial community, and suggestions for future meeting topics and formats that will enhance the group members' ability to learn from one another, share insights, and gather resources.
Over 40 alumni participated in the planning session, with some joining by phone from as far away as Eugene, OR and Shanghai, China. RL classes in the '60s to those recently out of college were represented. More alumni will be encouraged to participate both in person, on the phone, and virtually, through exchange on the professional networking website LinkedIn, where Roxbury Latin hosts an alumni group currently boasting almost 600 members. The main LinkedIn group also hosts a subgroup dedicated to entrepreneurs.
The outreach to entrepreneurs parallels other industry-specific networking groups that the school has recently promoted. In past years, the alumni council has hosted similar opportunities for alumni in the medical, legal, financial services, and commercial real estate sectors.
