Vibrant evening kicks off RL Annual Fund
Almost 400 members of the RL community attended this year’s Annual Fund Kick Off Dinner and heard the reflections of alumnus and faculty member Billy Quirk ’04, and Class IV student, Derek DaSilva.
After cocktails in the Bernstein Tea Room, the guests made their way to dinner in a transformed Gordon Field House. The Headmaster offered a blessing, and Annual Fund Chairman Rob Broggi ’90 addressed the gathering with a review of the success of the 2010-11 Annual Fund and an appeal for the current year's effort. Mr. Broggi expressed gratitude for the efforts of last year's Parent Fund Co-Chairs Mark and Laurie Keating, Vice Co-Chairs Lisa and Dan Lehan, and Leadership and Head Agents, whose efforts resulted in 100% parent participation for the fifth year in a row. He also recognized the hard work of ALGC Co-Chairs Bryan Anderson ’88 and Bill Maffie ’88 for setting a new record for dollars raised, and alumni class reps, for achieving a 50% participation rate among alumni—exceeding by far that of peer schools. As the 2011-12 Annual Fund is officially launched, we welcome new Parent Fund Co-Chairs Dan and Lisa Lehan, and new Vice-Chairs Andrew and Melora Balson.
Cocktails and fellowship were enjoyable to say the least, dinner exquisite and satisfying, but the clear highpoint of the evening were the personal reflections delivered to the gathering by Derek DaSilva IV and Billy Quirk ’04 on the School they know so particularly—Mr. DaSilva, well into the thick of his RL career as a student, and Mr. Quirk, a young member of the faculty who also has a unique perspective on his RL student days.
