Mike Miller ’05 helps launch robot opera

Mike Miller ’05 helped launch the premier of a new opera, Death and the Powers, in Monte Carlo last fall. The opera, with libretto by Robert Pinsky and music by Tod Machover, features robots as part of the cast. (Anyone at RL back in Mike’s day will remember his Botball exploits, an enthusiasm shared by classmate Nelson Elhage.)

The opera uses the techniques of tomorrow to address age-old human concerns of life and legacy. The unique performance environment, including autonomous robots, expressive scenery, new Hyperinstruments, and human actors, blurs the line between animate and inanimate. (Read more at MIT Media Lab...)

The opera comes to Boston (Cutler Majestic Theatre) in March, to Chicago in April, and then will tour worldwide.
